State Legislative Districts – Alaska Redistricting Board. The Board consists of 5 members: 2 appointed by the Governor, 1 appointed by the President of the Senate, 1 appointed by the Speaker of the House, and 1 appointed by the Chief Justice of Alaska Supreme Court. They are from the 4 major regions of the state and are appointed without regard to political party. Members are not allowed to be public employees or officials. The Board must adopt one or more redistricting plans within 30 days after the official reporting of the decennial census of the United States. The Board must hold hearings and then adopt a final plan within the next 60 days after the hearings. The Governor does not have veto power over the plan.
